Co-occurring Disorder and Dual Diagnosis

People who suffer from mental health disorders often suffer from substance, alcohol, or drug addiction, as well. This condition is called a “co-occurring disorder” or “dual-diagnosis.” If the underlying mental health concern is not recognized and treated successfully, it can negatively affect a person’s ability to live a clean and sober life.

It is important to receive care from a therapist or in-patient facility that has experience successfully treating a co-occurring disorder. Some of Spanish River Counseling Center’s board Certified Addiction Professionals have worked in dual-diagnosis facilities and/or have recovered from such addictions themselves. We understand the journey to sobriety and are eager to help our clients experience the same freedom.
