“Chains do not hold a marriage together. It is threads, hundreds of tiny threads, which sew people together through the years.” — Simone Signoret

Once upon a time, intimate relationships felt simple, almost effortless. But today, they demand intention, care, and investment. The quality of our relationships shapes the quality of our lives, and neglecting relational skills can cause harm to ourselves and those we love. Yet, there is hope—a hope rooted in blending relationship research with an appreciation for the individuality of every person.

For me, this realization came during the fifteenth year of our marriage. Discovering the science behind thriving relationships was transformative; it reshaped our marriage and set us on a healthier, more connected path. Now, as we embark on our third decade together, we navigate life with five kids ranging from high school to college. While our journey, like all relationships, has its share of challenges—from cultural differences to contrasting personality types—we’ve learned to use evidence-based tools to deepen our connection. These practices have helped us honor each other’s uniqueness, foster mutual respect, and build a home filled with harmony and growth.
