Meet Our Counselors
Dr. Norma S. Shearin
PH.D., L.M.H.C.
I love working with people. I have been in the field of counseling since 1999 and when I see the benefit of my client's healing, it drives me to continue enjoying the field of psychology. I enjoy working with youth, couples and families. I work mostly with trauma. Because trauma, grief, and loss have been a part of my past experiences, I can identify with my clients. I use EMDR, which is short for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. It is a technique that I use very efficiently to assist my clients to soothe anger, PTSD, anxiety, depression, grief, and loss, among other issues.
I believe that each person is unique and individual. Therefore, I customize my treatment approach to each person and their story. I can see about seven to eight individuals per day and it gives me great pleasure and satisfaction from watching them heal and restore. I am blessed to be in the position to help people restore because rebuilding is a great part of what I see daily.
I enjoy inviting The Holy Spirit into our sessions, so God is always present with us. Jeremiah 29:11 is my favorite scripture verse because I rely on God's promises. Jeremiah 29:11 says, "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future" (NIV).
